Important Message to all Parents / Guardians of our members

Safeguarding our Members

You will, I am sure, have seen the increasing media coverage of high profile footballers coming forward to talk about historical abuse when they were children, perpetrated by their football coaches.

At FYFC we take the safety of our young members very, very seriously.  We have policies and practices to ensure that the welfare of our members is our top priority and you can see these policies published here

All our football coaches and others who support the coaches are CRB checked on a regular basis.  In addition, our qualified Level 1 coaches have all received safeguarding children training, which they must refresh regularly.  These types of precautions have been in place for many years now, however abusers and sex offenders can still slip through the net, and therefore it is all of our responsibility to report any concerns, no matter how insignificant that they may be.  Where you have a concern - no action is not an option - especially if your concern relates to an individual or group of individuals in positions of responsibility, such as a youth football coach.

As the Club Welfare Officer at FYFC, I have myself been CRB checked and trained to be able to support anyone with concerns and ensure that appropriate action is taken swiftly and efficiently, including reporting to Social Services or the Police if necessary, to ensure our members are safe.  I am available to listen to your concerns, in the strictest confidence, either at the clubhouse, or email cwo@fyfc.org.uk.  Or you can contact the NSPCC 24hour helpline on 0808 800 5000 or Child Line for children and young people on 0800 1111.

Thank you

Nick Richards

Farncombe Youth FC Welfare Officer
